The Flixton Neighbourhood Plan

Although great progress has been achieved in protecting our Green Belt there is more that we can do.

Together as a community we have demonstrated the power that can yield when a common vision is shared about something we care about. Groups working together whether it be to protect the Green Belt, bringing pride to our public gardens and pushing for public facilities to remain open, have shown what can be achieved, but we feel more can be done.

Therefore we think the next step is to develop a Neighbourhood Plan for Flixton to protect, enhance and maintain all the assets that mean so much to the identity of this community.

What is a Neighbourhood Plan?

A Neighbourhood Plan is a community-led planning framework for guiding the future development, regeneration and conservation of an area. It is about the use and development of land and may contain a vision, aims, planning policies, proposals for improving the area or providing new facilities.

It may deal with a wide range of social, economic and environmental issues (such as housing, employment, heritage and transport) or it may focus on one or two issues only. These may be issues that are relevant to the whole neighbourhood or just to part of the neighbourhood. It is for the community of Flixton to decide on its scope and content.

Do you, the community, decide what goes into a Neighbourhood Plan for Flixton?

These are just a few examples of the issues and themes that we can focus on to shape a plan for Flixton:

  • Health and well being

  • Education

  • Employment

  • Retail

  • Village design and movement around the town for pedestrians

  • Historic and heritage protection and enhancement

  • Transport and Traffic

  • Natural Environment

  • Anything else the community thinks is important

What can a Neighbourhood plan do for future of Flixton?

  • Enables the community to work together to agree the things that are important for Flixton

  • Anyone who wants to get involved can do so – this is not for a select few

  • Influence over planning decisions and the chance to shape how national directives impact our village

  • A community led framework to guide the future development, regeneration and conservation of Flixton

  • Village centre – community facilities, leisure, culture, entertainment, visitor attractions

  • Opportunities for community projects to take off

  • If the plan clearly states what Flixton wants, then there is a greater chance of achieving this

  • Builds a sense of village pride and ownership of what goes on in our village
